Our product consists of a robotic manipulator designed for space applications, e.g., for on-orbit operations, capable of accessing a wide operational workspace by inflatable technology. This robotic manipulator, called IDRA (Inflatable and Deployable Robotic Arm), consists of inflatable links equipped with a controlled deployment and retraction mechanism, along with electrically actuated joints. The inflatable links aim to minimize the manipulator's volume while maximizing its workspace. When the robot is retracted, the volume is minimized by compacting the links, which represent the system’s largest components. Conversely, when deployed, the robot can access a significantly larger workspace, 64 times the size of those offered by traditional manipulators with the same stowage volume. The modular approach allows for adjusting the link length to match the satellite's size, as well as the required workspace and dexterity. Tools to perform inspection, repairing, upgrading, grasping operations can be easily integrated.
