Company Profile

With over 20 years of experience in satellite InSAR, TRE Altamira (TREA) is recognized as the world leader in displacement monitoring services using satellite radar data.

TREA provides millimetric-precision ground displacement measurements and targeted mapping solutions to mitigate risk, optimize operations, and plan future activities in various market sectors, including mining, civil engineering, oil & gas, and geohazards.

Our satellite technology works without any in-situ instrumentation and complements conventional survey methods. It is also a highly scalable technique and can be used to monitor a range of sites, from individual assets to small areas up to entire regions or countries.

By setting the industry standard for InSAR techniques, we continuously invest in the technological development of our processing algorithms to offer our clients innovative, effective, and easy-to-use solutions, which allow them to make faster and more informed decisions.

In 2010, we launched SqueeSAR©, our most advanced InSAR technique for detecting millimetric surface displacement.

Since 2022, TREA has been part of the European Ground Motion Service (EGMS), the first InSAR service at a continental scale, contributing to the processing of Copernicus Sentinel-1 imagery over millions of km2.

TREA brings together a multidisciplinary and multicultural team with excellent knowledge of SAR and InSAR applications and is part of the CLS Group with main offices in Milan, Barcelona, and Vancouver.

TREA is certified ISO 9001:2015 for its Quality Management System, which encloses the SAR satellite data processing for analysing and monitoring ground movement. The system also applies to the planning, engineering and development of PSInSAR techniques and products/services offered to customers. In 2022, TREA received the ISO 27001:2017 certification for its Information Security Management System.

SqueeSAR© is at the core of our service for detecting millimetric ground displacements. By processing satellite radar images acquired over an area of interest, SqueeSAR® provides ground surface motion maps, including measurement points and their displacement trends, for retrospective analyses - back to 1992 - and monitoring programs with updates on a weekly to quarterly basis.

Compared to PSI techniques, SqueeSAR© offers a significantly increased coverage of ground points, especially in low-reflectivity homogeneous, non-urban areas.

As is standard with PSI, SqueeSAR© identifies point-wise permanent scatterers (PS) but advances the previous approach by exploiting spatially distributed scatterers (DS). Whilst PS usually correspond to existing objects, DS are typically identified from the homogeneous ground, scattered outcrops, debris flows, non-cultivated lands and desert areas.

TRE Altamira's clients also benefit from using TREmaps®, a web-based platform to deliver, visualise, and manage their SqueeSAR© results.

We have also designed a toolbar for the ArcGIS platform that simplifies the process of visualising data, applying a legend, creating maps, displaying time series and analysing motion profiles.
